Tuesday Night with The EJ Cox Band – Friday Night with Ivory Deville – Sunday Afternoon in Sopris Park with The Songs from the Road Band – Sunday Night in the Shop with The Songs from the Road Band

Live Music Fans,

This week, we have four different opportunities just ready for your entertainment pleasure.  It starts tomorrow night with a very talented country band for a “spur of the moment” show.  You know by now that one of my favorite personal Mantras is “Why not?”.  And I am rarely sorry for booking more great live music.  True.  On Friday Night our Streak continues in rockin fashion with the amazing Ivory DeVille returning for another show from their base in Los Angeles.  Very cool original band.

Then, on Sunday afternoon we are taking the sound system out to Sopris Park from 3pm to 6pm to put on live music for the Carbondale Chamber who are hosting hundreds of bike riders coming to Town for the Bicycle Tour of Colorado. Then after that show, The Songs from the Road Band are coming into the shop for a special Sunday Night show at 8pm.  Then, I take a deep refreshing breath and get ready for the next week.  It’s the busy season!  Hanging on for the ride.  Eeeee…ha!!

See you at the shows!  Some good ones coming up.  Catch them when you can.

TUESDAY NIGHT – JUNE 19TH – EJ COX AND FRIENDS – 8:30PM – www.ejcox.com

“For those country music lovers that are yearning for a truer country sound…These songs are as real as real can be.” – One Stop Country.  “Soulful. Heartfelt. Thought-provoking. This is the essence of music from Carbondale, Colorado singer/songwriter, EJ Cox. Tuesday June 19th Cox and his band of local Americana all-stars (Jackson Emmer and Dave Harding on Guitar, Steven “Viddy” Vidamour on Up-right Bass, and Casey Boyd on Banjo) will be performing  a set of Cox’s originals and will be debuting a couple new tunes EXCLUSIVELY for the audience at Steve’s. Don’t miss this night of true “COUNTRY-FRIED FOLKGRASS”.

EJ Cox, Colorado singer/songwriter, has music running through his blood. Born and raised in Florida,  EJ’s great-grandfather and grandmother played “Old Time” fiddle; there are also banjo pickin’ cousins. Learning by ear, Cox began playing an old upright piano at lake BBQ’s around the age of seven & would soon be performing at church for a packed congregation. Once EJ left for college at Auburn University, he decided to trade the keys for a guitar & hasn’t stopped writing since.

“Cox is “Roots Country” and his debut album, “River Town” is evidence that he remains true to the musical foundations that first made Country popular. “The album has been out a little while now, and I’m excited that a couple of the tracks are getting played on the radio! It has been great performing all the songs with my band, and seeing the overwhelming response from the audiences…they never stop dancin’!”

When the “River Town” album was released, EJ was able to debut, “Up ‘Round Monterey”, one of the singles from the album, at The Bluebird Café, in Nashville. “An experience and a feeling hard to describe, performing a new song in a place with so much history, where so much talent has come through the doors!” EJ currently resides in Carbondale, Colorado, and if you see him around town you might say, he never meets a stranger. Folk’s that have caught his show say that his down to earth personality makes you feel like an old friend is up on stage.

Following his solo performance at “The Bluebird Cafe”, Cox put together a band of Southern California Americana all stars who have played with everyone from Jeff Bridges and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, to Clint Black and Roger Miller. The EJ Cox Show sold out the famed Maverick Saloon in Santa Ynez for the “River Town” CD Release party, and hasn’t stopped. Since their sold out debut at Maverick, The EJ Cox Band has headlined the Seventh annual Surf Rodeo Music Festival in Ventura, CA, played to a sold out crowd at one of Los Angeles’s most iconic venues, The Mint. and Cox and his band played an extended show under the Redwood Trees at Big Sur’s most notable music venue, Fernwood Resort.

“Wow, I’m tellin’ ya…what a night, what a crowd! And they were really diggin’ the new stuff we’re putting on the album this fall…so that was a nice feeling”

“The EJ Cox Band- Live from The Maverick Saloon”, the live record of his sold out CD release party was released in late 2017. Cox and his band have a 2018 summer tour planned, wrapping up with performances at The Little Beach Amphitheater in Minturn, Colorado, headlining the final show of the Minturn Summer Concert Series, and at The Historic Tabor Opera House in Leadville, CO.”

FRIDAY NIGHT – JUNE 22ND – IVORY DEVILLE – 8:30PM – www.ivorydeville.com

We first came across this great band when they played the Mt. Fair Gazebo and then came over for some more songs.  They blew the doors off the room with their high octane “honky tonk, Rock & Roll, Surf, Doo Wop, Scuzy, LA” brand of original music.  Right away we became fans of Johnny the lead singer and guitarist who drives this rockin act in a J Geils kind of style.  His fellow vocalists, Laura and Tia, are fantastic performers with Tina Turner type vocals and energy.  They are in town to play our little room and another gig at the Crown Summerfest & Ballon Bash up in El Jebel/Willits area.  The Crown Mountain Park will have ballons launching from 7am to 10am and the band will rock the park like they did last year at 6:30pm.  A fun event in the mid valley for sure.  Huge park, too if you’ve never been.  Check it out for a free show of this cool band.

Check out some of their videos to get a much better idea of this sweet band.  If you like what you see then you are in for a real treat to hear them in a small room like ours.  Still the best little byob music venue around these parts.  If you like high quality original rock music and a very tight band then this week is just down your alley.  Come on out.

SUNDAY AFTERNOON – JUNE 24TH – LIVE MUSIC IN SOPRIS PARK – 3PM TO 6PM – THE SONGS FROM THE ROAD BAND – www.songsfromtheroadband.com

Once again, the Bicycle Tour of Colorado has chosen Carbondale to be a host for this annual ride through the high country.  On June 24th, hundreds of fit riders will mount their two wheeled steeds and head up over the highest paved pass in Colorado; Independence Pass is a breath taking 12,095 feet high.  They will glide down through Aspen and on to our little town for some food, drink and live music.  You can check out more details about the race at www.bicycletourcolorado.com or the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce website.  Andrea Stewart is organizing the party and asked us to help with the live music.  Which we were happy to do.

“Songs From The Road Band is a North Carolina powerhouse group featuring Mark Schimick, Charles Humphrey, Ryan Cavanaugh, Sam Wharton, and James Schlender. Collectively, they have received top accolades in the bluegrass, Americana, and jazz genres.  They will be touring heavily in support of the fourth studio album, Road To Nowhere, which is due out in the summer of 2018!

Humphrey is an IBMA award & Grammy recipient. He has also garnered a spot in the NC Music Hall of Fame.  Schimick has soared to the top of the progressive and jamgrass scene alongside legends Larry Keel, Vassar Clements, and Tony Rice.  Cavanaugh has made his long-awaited return to bluegrass after 10 years of touring the world with jazz great Bill Evans and his Soulgrass project.  He has been acknowledged by Bela Fleck as an acoustic pioneer on the 5 string banjo.  James Schlender, 2 time National Fiddle Champion has shared the stage with Chick Corea, Bobby McFerrin, and George Benson.  Sam Wharton is an award winning guitar picker and singer who refined his chops in the bluegrass halls of Telluride, CO!  The Road Band delivers a high energy show full of original material from their 4 studio albums, unmatched instrumental prowess, and creative covers!”

SUNDAY NIGHT – JUNE 24TH – SONGS FROM THE ROAD BAND – 8PM – www.songsfromtheroadbandmusic.com

We had already booked this great acoustic string band before the Chamber asked us to find some good live music in the afternoon for the bicycle tour.  So the boys were already set and looking forward to playing the shop.  They love to play, right?  And there are few places better to hear acoustic string bands than our intimate listening room.  So you have two good chances to hear this talented touring band.

Once again, we are giving you some excellent options for hearing live music in this historic old town.  Now, all you have to do is leave the house and make your way to the ancient byob shop and/or Sopris Park.  I’m pretty sure you might know the way to both of those places.  Hope to see you at the shows!

Musically Yours,

Steve, Mary Margaret and Shannon
