A Special Weekend with Let Them Roar *** I See My Light Winter Solstice Celebration

Live Music Fans,

We started making live music happen every week of the year last century; primarily, to help support and grow the local music scene.  Our first “house band” was called Friends of Your Mother and they were certainly friends of the shop by playing great live music and giving the door for the rent.  Their love and support helped keep the doors open and the music flowing.  Fast forward a couple of decades and our “new house band”, Let Them Roar, has another creative use of the old space in mind for this weekend.  They have come up with a wonderful two-night special show that will be something new for the old space.  And, it’s all for a great cause.  You don’t want to miss this unique and perhaps one-only event.  Check it out!

The old space has never seen anything like what the band is creating for this special Winter Solstice show.  You won’t see anything like this anywhere in the valley.  That’s for sure.  Support your local artisans when you can.  It’s good for everyone.  The Creative District gives again! Now, all you have to do is show up and enjoy.

See you at the shows!

“I See My Light,” the title of our new single, is a song inspired by women who’ve taken Sanctuary in Colorado – Sandra Lopez (Carbondale), Rosa Sabido (Mancos), Ingrid Encalada Latorre (Boulder), Araceli Velazquez (Denver), and Jeanette Vizguerra (Denver).

These women sought physical refuge in places of worship (“sanctuary”) to keep their families from being torn apart by devastating immigration policies, and to save their lives. They represent over 100,000 immigrants and refugees in Colorado. While in sanctuary, these women are not only fighting for themselves. They are organizing communities to create a just and humane immigration system – changing state and federal policy, changing the votes of our lawmakers, and changing hearts and minds.  They are choosing bravery, and so can all of us.

We believe in these women and their vision of a just world; we believe in justice for immigrants and working to end hate and oppression.  Join us in supporting these brave leaders, and their belief in the dignity of all people – our light!  Donate now or buy the song to contribute, and spread the word!

See below for links to the music video, more about Sandra, Rosa, Araceli, Ingrid and Jeanette’s stories, and more info about the campaign.

Carbondale, Colorado’s LET THEM ROAR is a band much like a river rising from the Rocky Mountains – woven of strong currents, flowing towards the direction of truth, and brought together by an inspired sense of purpose. A band bent on bringing their hearts to the stage and sharing the meaning of their lives through their original music, LET THEM ROAR weaves a tapestry of progressive-folk from threads of tradition.

Their music reflects their home, which is nestled deep in the heart of the Elk Mountains. It’s a land where a confluence of Culture and Wildlands come together. Farmers, immigrants, naturalists, adventure-seekers, musicians and artisans call this home, with it’s roaring rivers, big mountains, and wildlife. LET THEM ROAR’s music swells of inspiration from this land and its people. It’s an expression from a group born and raised in these mountains, who are close in friendship, and who have played together in various forms for nearly a decade.

Tha band’s dual lead vocals feature the soaring, powerhouse singer Olivia Pevec and the sweet & fierce dynamics of Sophia Clark (also on acoustic guitar). Their harmonies hypnotize and command awe, and have been compared to First-Aid Kit, Ani DiFranco, & Gillian Welch. Lead guitarist Mateo Sandate is an imaginative-mastermind exploring sounds, textures, and loops like Bill Frisell and solos akin to Pat Metheny; and Ashton Taufer on acoustic bass supports the sonic pallet and groove with finesse reminiscent of a young Charlie Haden. This dynamic group enjoys bringing an intimate acoustic experiences as their primary expression, though are equally at home putting together 11-piece electric bands for dance parties that spill into the streets.

LET THEM ROAR is more than a band. They are inspiring change from within one’s self, as well as in the community, and remind us that we are all valuable, we all have dignity, and we are empowered to make the change we desire to see in this world.  They speak their truth on stage and off.  LET THEM ROAR has frequently performed in support of the immigrant rights movement and protection of wild lands from oil & gas development in Colorado.  Congregations supporting influential human rights movements have also featured LTR’s music in churches and spiritual services across the state. LET THEM ROAR believes in supporting movements that honor the earth and its people from the ground up. They are doing this one show and one song at a time.

LET THEM ROAR has a live album and three studio EP’s. Their song “We Are Not The Broken Ones” off of the TRIAD EP was featured on the May 2018 Relix CD sampler. They have performed in premiere venues and festivals throughout Colorado and have supported bands such as Elephant Revival, The Shook Twins, SHEL, Pato Bantan and the Now Generation, Tab Benoit, Paper Bird, Band of Heathens, Hit & Run Bluegrass, The Samples and more.”
