*** Streamin’ Steve’s 42nd Live Streaming Show ***

Live Music Fans,

One of our long standing traditions has been to provide a friendly stage for our many local musician friends and neighbors to share their original songs.  We have hosted many CD/Album/EP Release Parties in the past and we get to present another one with Natalie and Lizzy this week.  Both of these talented singer/songwriter/musicians have played the room many times in the past and their original music sounds wonderful in the little old room.  Tune in to GrassrootsTV and enjoy the show.

FRIDAY NIGHT – JANUARY 15TH – NATALIE SPEARS & LIZZY PLOTKIN – 7:30pm – EP Release Party – www.nataliespears.com  www.kdnk.org www.grassrootstv.org  www.lizzyplotkin.com

“Join Lizzy Plotkin & Natalie Spears to celebrate the release of their debut EP, Just Over The Ridge, on January 15th. The Wesern Slope-based duo revels in the endless groove of Appalachian fiddle/banjo duets, funky blues bass lines, and soulful harmony singing. Their original compositions and reverent interpretations of old-time and bluegrass standards draw from a deep history of listening and learning from great American music of the past. Just Over The Ridge is a 6-track compilation of original songs that features the versatile playing of Plotkin & Spears as they soar on the wings of American musical tradition and pull listeners into their colorful landscape.”

BIOGRAPHY – NATALIE SPEARS WEBSITE

“Natalie Spearsâs original compositions are a home-grown recipe of honest lyricism, soulful melodies, and placed-based inspiration. Drawing on the Americanaâs roots, including Old time and Jazz, she brings to life the history of these traditions in her own voice and with a quiver of instruments (banjo, bass, piano, and guitar). Her music offers listeners the space to both venture into the intimate corners of humanity and to rest easy under the strength of strings.

Born and raised in the heart of Washington DC, Spears took after her father, a Jazz and Classical pianist, and began playing piano at age five. By fifth grade she was schlepping her upright bass on the school bus, playing saxophone in her school band, and taking drum lessons. Music fell by the wayside after high school but in her early 20âs, Spears stumbled upon American Roots music. While playing bass in an Old-Time string band, she became enamored by the driving rhythm of the clawhammer banjo, and since then, has dedicated herself to learning the instrument and its history.

Spears is currently performing as part of her duo project with fiddle player and songwriter, Lizzy Plotkin. They will be releasing their debut EP, Just Over The Ridge, on January 15th, 2021. Her past projects include the Carbondale based band, Pearl & Wood. The band released their debut EP, Pearl & Wood, back in the summer of 2019. As a multi-instrumentalist, Spears also plays with a variety of bands spanning a range of genres. She has toured throughout the United States and has performed at the John Hartford Memorial Festival (Bean Blossom, IN), Blackpot Festival (Lafayette, LA), and Mountain Fair (Carbondale, CO) to name a few. Spears has also shared the stage with seasoned musicians like Peter Yarrow, Drew Emmitt of Leftover Salmon, Red Molly, Martha Scanlan, The Railsplitters, and many more.”

BIOGRAPHY – LIZZY PLOTKIN FROM HER WEBSITE

“Colorado fiddler, singer and song-writer Lizzy Plotkin has synthesized a lifetime of music and experience into her self-produced debut solo album, We Will Sing. Lizzyâs soulful, expressive singing and graceful fiddling tie it all together, and a band of distinguished Colorado roots musicians bring the songs to life. Her lyrics mine her life experiences for insight and humility, with vivid impressions of the natural world as their backdrop. Driven by collaboration and mindful exploration, Lizzy Plotkin makes music that heals and inspires. Soulful and expressive, spiritual yet grounded, We Will Sing draws from the full spectrum of American roots music styles to create an organic and uplifting meditation on the human experience.”

FRIDAY NIGHT – JANUARY 22ND – JACKSON EMMER SOLO – 7:30PM – www.jacksonemmer.com

Few are writing songs like Jackson Emmer. Rolling Stone

“Jackson Emmer has quietly built his reputation as a deft songwriter and commanding singer on the outskirts of country music. His gentle, lush, raspy vocals stand out in the crowded field of Americana. Based in the small town of Carbondale, Colorado, Emmer began singing at the unlikely age of 20. However, due to the arid, mountain climate, and the rigors of long bar gigs, Emmerâs vocal cords were soon in tatters. By 28, he had lost his voice completely.

Undeterred, Emmer saw this as an opportunity a fresh start disguised as defeat. Im a quiet optimist. There is only one way: forward, Emmer says. He rebuilt his voice from the ground up, learned to sing again, and a new sound emerged. The scars of mountain living were forever sealed into his timbre. Lush with overtones, ghostly harmonics, and friendly grit, Emmers voice is better than ever.

His third studio album, Alpine Coda, places Emmers unique singing front and center. Recorded in just five days in Nashville, and produced by the acclaimed Mary Bragg, Emmers latest work is his best yet. All ten tracks were either written or co-written by Emmer, and the songs display his award-winning blend of humor and heartache. Think George Jones meets Dan Reeder.

Jackson Emmer has been touring and recording in the USA since 2009. He has performed at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Club Passim, Cactus Cafe, Rockwood Music Hall, McGonigelâs Mucky Duck, The Bugle Boy, and The Grey Eagle, to name a few.”

Musically Yours,

Steve, Mary Margaret and Shannon
