Live Music Fans,
Our Friday Night shows are flying by in slow motion and we are pleased to offer the 6th Streamin’ Steve’s live stream for your at-home musical entertainment. The streaming of these live music shows are drawing hundreds of views for each Friday so we hope you are enjoying the live music. After 3 months of not being able to have an audience in the music room, we are just glad to be able to offer any type of live music for you. Thanks to the very successful fundraising effort, we were able to buy some great HD cameras and equipment which makes it possible to stream such high quality video and audio for these live performances. The timing of the Streamin’ Steve’s dream was surprisingly perfect for this unexpected era of isolation and stay-at-home life. Please let us know if you are enjoying the free streaming and if you have some talented musicians that you would love to watch.
We have a special musical treat for the next Streamin’ Steve’s show on June 12th. You can tune into the live stream and enjoy our first touring band in 13 weeks. The Birds of Play are a powerfully talented trio who have played the room several times in the past and always put on a sweet show. I have included some words from their website below so check them out.
And let us know if you are getting to enjoy any of the previously taped shows. Like the one we streamed last Friday Night with Mandolin Orange. That show has received over 100,000 views and remains our most popular viewed show. For this Friday Night, we will be streaming our show with Hot Buttered Rum after the live music. Enjoy!
FRIDAY NIGHT – JUNE 5TH – THE MILEMARKERS DUO – OPENING ACT: NATALIE SPEARS – 7:30PM – www.milemarkersmusic.com www.nataliespearsmusic.com
Nelson Oldham and Hap Harriman have been making some excellent live music in the valley for decades. Nelson has been part of our little music scene since the start and his local restaurant has fed many of our touring acts and he even hosted the local Suncy Bluegrass Jam for years. He’s a skilled musician as well as a generous patron of the local art scene. And he writes some cool original songs which are our favorite kinds. Hap adds some beautiful lead guitar and is one of the few local guitarists who are fluent in Mark Knofler. A very talented and popular local duo who will make some sweet live music for us this Friday.
“Thank you for your interest in The Milemarkers. Our mission is to deliver the very highest quality Americana rock. Our skillfully crafted original songs have received praise from music promoters and musicians around the valley and beyond. Our mix of cover songs is unique, fresh and familiar. We are dedicated to giving our live audience the very best performance possible, our shows are energetic, well paced and musically diverse.”
OPENING ACT WITH NATALIE SPEARS AT 7:30PM
“Natalies original compositions are a home-grown recipe of honest lyricism, soulful melodies, and placed-based inspiration. Drawing on the roots of Americana, including Old time and Jazz, she brings to life the history of these traditions with her own voice and quiver of instruments (banjo, bass, piano, and guitar). Her music offers listeners the space to both venture into the intimate corners of humanity and to rest easy under the strength of strings.”
“Born and raised in the heart of Washington DC, Natalie took after her father, a Jazz and Classical pianist, and began playing piano at age five. By fifth grade she was schlepping her upright bass on the school bus, playing saxophone in her school band, and taking drum lessons. Music fell by the wayside after high school but in her early 20s, Natalie stumbled upon American Roots music. While playing bass in an Old-Time string band, she became enamored by the driving rhythm of the clawhammer banjo, and since then, has dedicated herself to learning the instrument and its history.”
“Natalie is currently touring with her Americana Roots project, Lizzy Plotkin & Natalie Spears, a banjo/fiddle/bass/guitar/mandolin duo, and will be releasing their first EP in fall of 2020. In 2015 she co-founded the band Pearl & Wood, and they released their debut album in the spring of 2019. As a multi-instrumentalist, she also plays with a variety of bands spanning a range of genres. Natalie has performed throughout the United States at festivals such as the John Hartford Memorial Festival in Bean Blossom, Indiana and has shared the stage with seasoned musicians like Peter Yarrow, Drew Emmitt of Leftover Salmon, Red Molly, Martha Scanlan, The Railsplitters, and many more.”
PREVIOUSLY RECORDED SHOW WITH THE FANTASTIC HOT BUTTERED RUM – www.hotbutteredrum.net
This is a great example of one of the many touring bands who have graced our little stage. We are looking forward to the time when we can all feel safe about experiencing these amazing acts that love to visit Carbondale. We have always loved our enthusiastic audiences who fill the old room with such great energy. I’m sure it always inspired the musicians and it is something I deeply miss. Let’s hope we can get back to those times. Meanwhile we are hosting some really talented local players which has been a real treat for my private concerts. We continue to have one of the strongest local music scenes in the state thanks to all these talented local players. Quite a valley. Enjoy the streams!
NEXT STREAMIN’ STEVE’S SHOW WITH THE TOURING ACT “BIRDS OF PLAY” – www.birdsofplaymusic.com
“Birds of Play is a musical collaboration born from a mutual love of desert canyons, raging rivers, rocky mountaintops, and juice picnics. These multi-instrumentalists bring together blues, bluegrass, folk, and funk in a glorious blend of humor, honesty, and harmony.”
“With a dynamic mix of sentimentality and playfulness, Birds of Play’s original music will take you on a joyous journey filled with tales of love lost and found, ballads of wild places, and the radical idea that being happy for no reason at all is reason enough. Add in a smattering of bird calls and crowd-inclusive banter and an evening with the Birds of Play will surely leave you feeling all the feelings and wanting more. Their debut album, Anthrophony was released mid summer 2019 and they plan to return to the studio spring 2020. Influences include the Wood Brothers, Gregory Alan Isakov, Mandolin Orange, and so so many more.”
Thanks again to everyone who has donated to making Streamin’ Steve’s a reality. We hope you are enjoying the live music while in the comfort of your safe home. Special thanks to our kind Aspen landlord, Anthony “Tony” Mazza and his staff who have been of great help with the streaming effort and staying in business through these strange times. And, more thanks to Tom and Cheryl who generously donated a $1,000 matching grant that was just fully matched by more local patrons of our art. I learned decades ago that Steve’s Guitars was something way more than just Steve and his too many guitars. We appreciate all your love and support to keep Steve’s going strong.
