Live Music Fans,

The seasons are blending as we work our way into the cold times.  Enjoy these wonderful, warm sunny days while they last.  Now we get to enjoy the shows where the front doors are closed (for a good reason) and the room gets all warm, cozy and sounding so good.  And, if the room still wants to rock hard like with the mighty Reverend Peyton did, we love to see the inside of the big windows all fogged up from the hot sweaty dancing.  The room goes where it wants to go and is ready and willing for just about any type of show.  Right?

So, this week we are quite fortunate to host three excellent nights of live music.  Starting on Friday Night with one of our favorite local rock bands, composed of very talented high schoolers who love classic rock and blues like me.  A new generation of players. Then on Saturday Night, we are really happy to present a fantastic touring band from Montana.  A rare treat to hear these guys who put on a great show their last visit.  And, on another first Sunday of the month, we host the long standing (Hardly Strictly) Bluegrass Jam from 6pm to 8pm with some excellent local musicians and whoever wants to join in on the musical fun.  The best free music around on a sleepy Sunday night, for sure.  Take advantage of this fine live music.  Why not?

See you at the shows!

We are looking forward to the return of this great local rock band who has been rockin the room for years.  They first started playing their rock in the shop before any of them were old enough to drive.  Thanks to one of the roadie dads, Jason Jones, they were able to get gigs all over the place while getting better all the time.  They even played JAS Aspen this past season.  These high school students play way beyond their years and since their last visit they added another talented singer to the band.  Should be even better!  Here’s a few words from their website.  And they have been working on their first album being recorded by Ralph Pitt of Mad Dog Ranch Studios in Old Snowmass.  Getting things done and making sweet live music for their friends and neighbors.  Come check them out and be impressed like us while enjoying the old Town of Carbondale on another First Friday.  Lots of action in this historic downtown.

“Our band members are sophomores from RFHS and CRMS. Our band truly began in 7th grade when we used used to jam out together for fun after band class. Through the years, Sleepy Justice evolved into the band we know today with the help of mentors like Dan Rosenthal and Jason Jones. Now, you can catch Sleepy Justice playing shows at venues all around the Roaring Fork Valley. These shows will allow us to raise enough funds to produce our first recorded album. We’re enjoying our journey so far and  look forward to what’s ahead!”

Here are some words from their website.  Check out some videos and get a good idea of this very cool band from up North.  Then come out and enjoy some great live music in the best little byob venue in these parts.

“Laney Lou and the Bird Dogs are a relentlessly energetic folk-rock band based out of Bozeman , Montana. Combining a soaring four part harmony and rock ‘n’ roll drive, a Bird Dog show gets people dancing and singing along to original tunes and covers alike.

With a combined 30 years of experience in blues, rock, country, metal, folk, and indie bands, the members of Laney Lou and the Bird Dogs found their common ground in bluegrass and country music, and bring a truly unique sound to the folk scene.

This award-winning band has been taking their infectious sound on the road since 2013, sharing stages with the likes of Keb Mo’, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, The Jeff Austin Band, Amy Helm, Leftover Salmon, The Infamous Stringdusters, Corb Lund, The Mavericks, Mark Chesnutt, Blitzen Trapper  and many more. The Bird Dogs released a live self-titled studio album in 2016, recorded at Basecamp Studio in Bozeman. Their follow-up album, titled The Vigilante Session, was recorded live at a forest service cabin in the Ruby mountains.

Born under the big sky in Bozeman, Montana, Laney Lou and the Bird Dogs consist of Lena (Laney) Schiffer on vocals/guitar/percussion, Matt Demarais on vocals/banjo/dobro, Ethan Demarais on bass, Brian Kassay on fiddle/mandolin/harmonica, and Josh Moore on vocals/guitar.”

Our long time friend and local musician, Nelson Oldham, started this Sunday jam series years ago and hosted the night for a long time.  When they changed schedules, we were happy to keep the long standing musical event happening on the first and fourth Sunday of the month.  All the other Sunday Bluegrass Jams are held in Glenwood.  It’s by far the best deal for hearing good live music on a Sunday Night in the valley so take advantage of this free, early evening event.  Why not try it?  This is not a bunch of stumbling beginning players who “jam” all night.  Rather, it’s an ever changing group of skilled musicians who play whatever songs they want covering a wide variety of genres.  These nights are acturally high quality shows that you can hear for free and/or join in with your instrument of choice.  Check it out some night and you will be pleased, I bet.  Take the chance.  It won’t cost you a dime.  Just a little time.

Musically Yours,

Steve, Mary Margaret and Shannon
